From the Editors
UK 12-track 2-LP vinyl set includes one bonus track, 'Bitten By The Wolf'. The Rock supergroup of the year comprising of Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani & Chad Smith!! Simply named Chickenfoot, this instant classic album combines all the best elements of the individual members forming this supergroup. Sammy Hagar's voice is clearer and warmer than ever. Joe Satriani's guitar style is showing a rockier side, a heavy sound with great solos in the best guitar hero rock tradition. Michael Anthony delivers his loud and groovy bass line, while his backing vocals, combined with Hagar's lead voice, bring back that great sound of Van Halen's albums. Chad Smith shows all his love for hard hock music with thunderous drumming - a real pleasure throughout the whole album. The album features instant classics, like the first single 'Oh Yeah' or the second single 'My Kinda Girl' [for which a big production video clip is about to be filmed]. From the opening track 'Avenida Revolution' through heavy rock and roll gems like 'Get it On' and 'Soap on a Rope' to the ballad 'Learning To Fall', an hour blast without one filler track. Presented in a picture sleeve with heat sensitive ink so that when you place a warm hand on the cover, it reveals the photos of the band members beneath!

Finally, an album that just rocks
If you've been missing straight ahead rock and roll entertainment, then wait no longer, this is it. Chickenfoot's debut album is not an attempt to break new ground or anything else pretentious; instead it's a fun, party record. It really rocks, it's a good time, and isn't that what rock and roll is supposed to be? The "party attitude" displayed herein is what made VH, Sammy the solo artist, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. so enjoyable, but it's been missing from rock for years. I had high expectations, having enjoyed all four of these guys' talents for years, and this effort delivers.
I hear Sammy as the most dominant, but it has a unique cohesion as well. There have been many disappointing "supergroups" over the years, but with this one, I think the egos were checked at the door. The songs dominate; individual talents contribute to the whole effort. Everyone's together, so to speak.
This disk's negative criticism seems to center around its retro style (yes, it could have been recorded in 1985) or the style departure for Satriani. Frankly, I consider these "problems" to be successes or attributes. It's a BAND, and more than that, a ROCK BAND, simple, yet refreshing. In my humble opinion, there isn't nearly enough of this style of music being produced these days. Straight-ahead rock and roll with a fun vibe about sums it up.
Rock Cheese, anyone ??
I came across this album only recently when I was downloading. I thought, "Hey, that HAS to be worth a look!" .... "Surely that album is going to really Rock!" .... "I dont care if it is "Surfing with Aliens with Lyrics it HAS to be good" !!
No .. It doesn't ... I got through 4 tracks, and that was enough for me.
Yes, I am an "old fart" .. I have been listening to Rock music for 43 years and in that time have enjoyed everything from Aerosmith to ZZ top, Quicksilver Messenger service to Tommy Emmanuel and most points in between, including Mr Satriani. I know what I like, and what I dont like. In a nutshell I dont like 50 year olds pumping out childish, big hair (no offence, Joe), spandex pants rock ( I use the word loosely ) for the simple reason they have nothing to do on a sunday afternoon and want to rip some more money off their individual fans who, through understandable loyalty, WILL be tempted to part with their cash..
This album is so cheesy it should come with some sort of warning for the lactose intolerant !! It doesn't rock, the lyrics are toe curlingly embarrassing, the mix is appalling, and Joe adds absolutely nothing
This album may be a first .. one SO bad I actually delete it from my MP3 player. what a disappointment.
A Solid Effort From A Talented Group
This newly formed supergroup is comprised of four rather talented and professional musicians - Sammy Hagar (formerly of Van Halen), Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony (also formerly of Van Halen), and Chad Smith (of the Red Hot Chili Peppers). All fine musicians in their own right, but does this somewhat odd medley of rockers fit together? Perhaps at first glance, they don't, but take a listen to their debut self-titled album. They form Chickenfoot (what an odd name!). It is a hard rockin' album, something you'd expect from legendary frontman and songwriter Sammy Hagar, but also, it features some nicely crafted ballads striking a good balance - another Hagar quality. For the most part, this album I feel strikes a nice balance between tight professional precision, and all-out party-like rock. It at times sounds reserved, and often it lets out. And while it does feature many high notes, some songs do fall flat.
Like some other supergroups out there, Chickenfoot hasn't completely gelled yet, and won't perhaps until their next album - if they release a second record, as I believe they will, and should! I am a big, big fan of these musicians here, particularly Sammy Hagar, and ultimately, this album was a big treat for me. I liked some parts more than others, but as a whole, it turned out to be pretty good. I definitely look forward to their next release, because it will only get better, as they will surely work out any kinks and compliment each other only more so.
I definitely reccommend Chickenfoot's debut album, as it certainly features some nice highlights. And it seems that these four guys are really having a lot of fun at what they do - and that alone makes it worth listening to.
