Perfect first book
Terrific book for the day you discover your 4 year old can put sounds together into words. The language is simple, the phrases are repetetive, the pictures are useful for context, and the story is amusing. Very few words longer than four letters. Probably not as interesting to older children learning to read, but perfect for age 3-4.
Awesome Book to start reading!!
My daughter is 17 months old and this is one of her favorite books. She has several books but she always picks this one and calls it "Hen Book". The pictures are attractive, the words seem easy to be grasped by toddlers and overall is a great book.
Awesome book for early reading
Excellent book for beginners. My daugther has memorized this book, she is 2 1/2 years old. We both have fun with it. Even when we are out and about I ask her: Is it a dog egg? and she says "Noooooo...says dog" and then she wants me to ask more...until I ask "Is it a fox egg?" and she says a loud "YES!" ...and I love when she responds with "Awwww" to the line: 'Hen loves them all'
Fun easy readers that motivate children to read
I purchased these books for my 5-year-old daughter who is beginning to read on her own and these Step Into Reading books are excellent as they have a high-interest factor that motivates her to read. The stories are also wonderfully illustrated in full color. This particular story has an "aww" moment, as hen finds a large egg amidst her clutch of regular hen eggs, and wonders whose egg it is, going around the farm asking the other animals if it belongs to them, until she encounters a sly fox!
These Step 1 series are recommended for preschool-K - the stories are in large type and the vocabulary is easy. The stories are also in a rhyming format which makes them easy and fun to read. The full color pictures also provide contextual clues as to the word being used in the text. These early readers have raised my daughter's confidence level in reading, and she is doing so well that I'm purchasing the Step Two books (Preschool-Grade 1). I use these books in conjunction with sight words to reinforce her recognition of common vocabulary.
Best book of this type
After reading this 12 times to the 2 1/2 year old, he read it himself. You do not get tired of reading this book as it can be read in a very animated and fun style. The baby added all the animation to his reading also. Just the best book for beginning reading.
