The Best of the Series
As the last installment of the INKHEART trilogy, INKDEATH goes out with a BANG! After I finished INKSPELL, I scrambled franticly to find INKDEATH. And I wasn't disappointed! I was quite sad when I finished it though, because I read it so quickly and there was no more! I will recommend this book to anyone and everyone! Way more suspense than the other two, this book was the best of the series.
Ahhhhhh
Just finishing this book up and it was a great read along with the others. I couldn't put it down.
review from One Book At A Time [...]
After a so-so first book, a fantastic second one, I was not sure what to expect for the final book in the Inkheart trilogy. Honestly, it fell somewhere in the middle. It was still rich in descriptions. I really love the characters the author has created. And the story is such an original concept. But, at times this book was just too long. I found myself skimming areas just to get to the next set of adventures. I don't think we need long paragraphs about why or why not something is going to happen. At this point, we already know the characters and nothing was out of the ordinary. And it switched view points a lot. When you have so many characters that play important parts in the story and they are in so many different locations, the story gets overwhelming. There are still some fabulous parts of this book and it wraps up the story wonderfully. I'm sure it won't disappoint anyone who has enjoyed the series.
Good end to the trilogy
At first I was surprised and shocked by the change in Meggie's feelings for Farid. After finishing the entire novel, however, I can say that Funke did an excellent job with this last novel in the trilogy. I wasn't able to predict how the plot would flow as I am in so many other books, and that made me want to keep reading it.
Overlong, but short on what made the first two books great
This last entry in the Inkheart series was difficult for me to get through, unlike the first two books, which were real page-turners. I believe this book would have been vastly improved by some major editing. Also, a warning for parents of younger readers: this book is quite dark; cruelty and gory descriptions abound. Meggie's character is shortchanged, as she is shunted to the sidelines with a weak love triangle subplot. Both her and her father's ability to make words into reality through their voices is not explored fully in this book, to my disappointment.
The translation may very well be to blame, but certain phrases pop up at an annoyingly frequent rate, and I find this distracting. The biggest offender? "All the same..." This is true of all three books.
I persevered and finished this book, being a completist and having enjoyed the first two very much, though there were times I considered abandoning it for one of the many books I've been meaning to read. The book did have its moments, but not enough of them to keep me engaged.
