From the Editors

<DIV>Although a year has passed, not a day goes by without Meggie thinking of INKHEART, the book whose characters became real. But for Dustfinger, the fire-eater brought into being from words, the need to return to the tale has become desperate. When he finds a crooked storyteller with the ability to read him back, Dustfinger leaves behind his young apprentice Farid and plunges into the medieval world of his past. Distraught, Farid goes in search of Meggie, and before long, both are caught inside the book, too. But the story is threatening to evolve in ways neither of them could ever have imagined.</DIV>

Customer Response

As Good as INKHEART
In this very nice addition to the first book, INKHEART, all your favorite characters return but instead of coming out of the books, they're going in! This time, Meggie, Mo, Farid, Dustfinger, and Gwin are pulled into the mysterious book INKHEART, a medieval land filled with thieves, horrible creatures, tyrant rulers, and robbers. Still sought after for their talents and stuck in the world of INKHEART, Mo and Meggie search for the author of the perilous book (who previously was read into the book accidentally) who could write them out of the book forever. This book, as compelling and jaw dropping as the last had me laughing, sweating, screaming, and crying the whole way through!

magic weaves through the words on the page.
Such a good book. I read it over 5 times and it always stays interesting and new to me. Funke's words are used so specifically in this book, how the main characters feel, what scene one of stories is set in... Her writing is always strong and creative, in a way. I mean, I think this book should be available to ages 10+. You really should read it, if you're not afraid to read it...

Book fantastic, reader problematic
The book is fantastic. The story is a natural progression from the very well written and engaging Inkspell. The reading, however, is a problem. I found Brendan Frasier's accents just fine; what was problematic was that he ACTED the story. As someone who listens to many audio books, I love a good reader who understands that I don't require the story to be acted out for me. I like letting the action happen inside my own head; whoever directed Mr. Frasier in this audio version was clearly not someone who understood the genre of audiobook.

I LOVED the Lynn Redgrave version of Inksheart and am looking forward to the audio version of Inbkdeath, but I am struggling to finish the acted-out version of Inkspell.

Review from One Book At A Time onebooktime.blogspot.com
I have to admit that I didn't jump out and read this because I didn't think Inkheart was all that great. But, I wanted to know how the story ended. So, I finally picked this one up. I'm very glad that I did. The story was much richer than the first book. It was written better with the characters coming to life more. Maybe it's because we finally get a look at the world that everybody was willing to go to such lengths for. It's almost like the author was able to write about a fantasy world better than the real one. I found the danger more real and the bad guys gave off more of that evil persona. I was just overall more impressed with this one. Believe me, I will be picking up the last in the series soon!
